eduFire: Global Intelligence

Jon, it certainly is an exciting time to be alive. Getting to this tipping point where the vast majority of people know what is going on,and how to tap into it and use it to their advantage is much sooner than most people would care to think.

History has shown that great paradigm shifts come in huge leaps, and not incrementally.

Clay Shirkey talks a lot about how big is different (and faster is different) in his book "Here comes Everybody". There is a part where he talks about how in observing the way that small movements gather pace, there are three main stages; Everybody knows, where people work out for themselves what the new paradigm is. Everybody knows everybody knows, where people recognise that other people know what's going on as well. And finally, the most powerful, and irrepressible stage, Everybody knows that everybody knows everybody knows, where people and the group have a shared awareness of the new reality that enables them to coordinate in ways not possible through organisation alone.

I think we have reached the second stage, where everybody knows that knowledge is at our fingertips. We are just moments away from realising that everybody knows that everybody knows.

Great post John. That's so funny--I've never even checked out Twitter Search. This is awesome (and very dangerous!).

@jr - Really good follow-up. The only thing that doesn't quite makes sense to me (which is why I just ordered Shirky's book!) is the "everybody knows that everybody knows". Shouldn't it be "everybody knows that *someone* knows". That's what's incredibly cool about global intelligence to me. I don't have to be super-smart in a bunch of areas. I just need to know who is super-smart in a certain area and then go to that person when I need to be informed.

Kinda like I do with @Lenette when I need nutrition information!! :)
